AJR Kristallnacht Event 2016
AJR held our Kristallnacht Service at Princes Road Synagogue, Liverpool on Monday 7th November. Over 50 AJR members attended from Liverpool and Manchester.
We were delighted that our guest speaker was Edwina Currie.
Edwina was born in Liverpool where her maternal grandparents managed the Mikva.
She won a scholarship to Oxford, served on Birmingham City Council for 11 years, and represented South Derbyshire in Parliament 1983 – 1997.
As Minister for Health she brought in nation-wide screening for both breast and cervical cancer and served on the first team campaigning against AIDS.
She has written 11 books, appeared on many TV programmes and is a well-known commentator on both TV and radio.
She and her husband John Jones (a former Met Police detective) have between them 6 grown-up children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. And two old dogs. They live in the Peak District near Manchester.
We also heard from Lauren Klyne who gave an account of her grandmother, Ruth Edwards’ memories of Kristallnacht.
The service was led by Chazan Edward Marks and all of the photographs were taken by Karen Herman Wright.
