Recipes Remembered

We are delighted to announce the publication of Recipes Remembered, a collection of dishes and stories compiled from the refugees from Central Europe who fled Nazi oppression and who rebuilt their lives in Britain.

Recipes Remembered is not your average recipe book; it is a miscellany of tastes, aromas and recollections of times of privation or prosperity, prepared and eaten at a time when the world was a very different place. The book conjures up memories of childhood and of recipes passed down through generations of families, beautifully preserved for posterity

AJR Director Michael Newman said: “We are very grateful to AJR member Dorothy Fleming who conceived the idea and to AJR volunteer Pippa Landey for all her hard work to compile this wonderful and evocative collection. The recipes and accompanying stories in Recipes Remembered are tinged with nostalgia and are a fitting legacy of the people whose lives were devastated by the Holocaust.”
