AJR particpated at volunteers fairs for 6th formers at JFS, Yavneh College, Hasmonean and Immanuel College. These events proved to be a great success with more than 100 students signing up to become volunteers for the AJR.
The new volunteers will help AJR members in a number of ways:
Phone a Friend - many AJR members are isolated, have little or no surviving family and are extremely lonely. We need volunteers to phone them every couple of weeks and spend some time talking to them.
Befriending - we need volunteers to visit members who live in their own homes. Many members are frail and isolated, some have little or no survived family and are very lonely. Volunteers are needed to befriend these people by visiting their homes, chatting with them, etc. Volunteers are required especially in Wembley, Edgware and Golders Green.
Practical help with Computers - many elderly people have a computer, but they don’t know how to use it. Volunteers with basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, etc.) are required to visit them and
to assist them to use their computer.
Full training and support will be given.
