I had a very happy childhood. But I did know that it was very anti-Semitic. When I was about six years old I went to school, and I was a nice little girl, and I remember one of the girls called me a griese Sau, which is a grey sow, and the teacher took me in her arms and said to the class: ‘Now look at her. How can you call her that?’ But, on the whole, I got on very well in the school. But there was a latent and very strong anti-Semitism.
