Jo Briggs, Editor, AJR Journal
As we publish our July edition of the AJR Journal, we are delighted to share an issue that reflects both the remarkable history of our organisation and the exciting future that lies ahead.
This month is especially significant as we celebrate the AJR’s 85th anniversary. Throughout the magazine you’ll find stories that capture the spirit of our community—from looking back at the organisation’s journey over the past eight and a half decades to celebrating the people, events and achievements that continue to shape the AJR today.
Among the highlights is our special coverage of the AJR’s first Residential Weekend, which brought together members from across the UK for an unforgettable few days of learning, remembrance and friendship. We also feature our new digital home, the latest addition to our nationally recognised Blue Plaque Scheme, the remarkable achievements of our Head of Education and Heritage, Alex Maws MBE, and a fascinating look at the unique sense of humour that has long been one of the defining characteristics of the AJR community. As always, you’ll also find letters from readers, reports from AJR events and visits, historical features, reviews and details of forthcoming activities. Whether you enjoy reading the Journal from cover to cover or dip into the articles that interest you most, I hope there is something in this issue that informs, inspires and connects you with our wonderful community.
If you’ve received your printed copy, I hope you enjoy reading it over a cup of tea. If not, you can read or download the latest edition from the AJR website whenever it suits you.
