Imagine having had such a traumatic early childhood that you subconsciously trained yourself to forget most of it. Then imagine, almost eight decades, reading a description of your young self hand written by the girl you sat next to at school.
This was what happened to 93 year old Inge Hamilton when her next door neighbour in Wimbledon found her late mother’s memoir. She realised that her mother, whose family briefly moved to the Lake District during WW2 to escape the Blitz, had befriended Inge, who had been sent to Britain via Kindertransport in 1939 when she was just five years old.
